FreeStep has made the move “across the pond” from England to the States. FreeStep is the easiest, most flexible, fun dance that anyone can learn and enjoy.
What is FreeStep? FreeStep is a modern partner dance, similar to swing, without the complicated footwork…hence the name “FreeStep”. It’s easy to learn – dancers can bring their own style to the moves, which is why so many people have embraced this style of dance. Though its roots go back to the 1920’s, FreeStep is a modern dance. At an event, dancers will FreeStep to all kinds of music from current chart hits back through the ‘90s, ’80s and ‘70s, even through to the occasional ‘40s swing and ’50s Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Who “FreeSteps”? If you love to dance and have some rhythm, you will love to FreeStep! The typical age range for a FreeStep crowd is between 30–50. Although, college-age young adults and those from the generations who started Swing dancing also enjoy FreeStep.
“FreeStepping” is easy to learn. FreeStep simply follows the beat of the music. We guarantee that everyone will be dancing by the end of their first class. Then they’ll be FreeStepping at parties, nightclubs and anywhere there’s music and a few square feet of dance floor.
Grab a FreeStepper! Shows like “Dancing with the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance” have increased the appeal of partner dancing. But there’s no need to bring a partner to a FreeStep event. FreeStep events ensure that everyone mixes, so it’s always a great way to meet new people.
Everyone can FreeStep! The teaching methods of FreeStep make the dance fun and easy to pick up. Although the dance is made up of over 400 different moves and variations, after learning only a handful of the basic moves, beginners can find themselves dancing confidently.
FreeStep Events. The whole concept behind FreeStep events is radically different from traditional dance schools. With large classes (80–200 people) a cash bar and plenty of time to actually dance after the lessons there is a real party atmosphere. FreeStep events start at 7.30 p.m. with a beginner’s class that teaches three or four of the basic moves. This is followed by a session of freestyle dancing, where dancers can practice and add to what they have just learned – it is also the most fun! Later in the evening there is a second lesson to review and expand upon the moves taught in the first. After only a couple of weeks, attendees have learned a collection of FreeStep moves. The culmination of the evening has more freestyle dancing to a wide variety of music.
FreeStep events are more than just a dance class. It’s a great night out for singles and couples of all ages to stay in shape, meet new people and learn to dance all in one evening.
